Yeghishe Melikyan: I lost the away game, but my boys won the home one

After the second leg of the UEFA Conference League first qualifying round between Pyunik and Tre Fiori, Pyunik head coach Yeghishe Melikyan assessed the team’s performance and touched upon a number of important issues during the post-match press conference.

“I want to apologize for the away game.I lost the away game, but my boys won the home one. After the defeat, I demanded an aggressive game, and I think the team accomplished that task. I don’t think it was an exaggeration. We know that our next opponent is a serious one, now we have time to analyze the situation and prepare for the next match,” Melikyan noted.

Referring to the cooperation between Noubissi and Otubanjo, he said: “Both of them are good footballers. This was their first official game together. In some moments, they cooperated well, in other moments, they didn’t. That’s what I mean when I say that the team is not yet fully ready. We need time, we need games for stronger cooperation.”

Melikyan also spoke about the relations in the team. “There is a friendly and healthy atmosphere in our team.”

Speaking about the team’s tactics and psychological state, Melikyan noted: “Football doesn’t like relaxing during the game. I wanted it to be a game full of goals. That defeat tormented me for five days. After five days, we scored five goals today.”
