Pyunik defeats Ararat in Artak Oseyan’s debut match

In the fourth round of the Fastex Premier League, Pyunik faced Ararat Yerevan at the Armavir City Stadium.

The match was the first for Artak Oseyan as the head coach of our team, who after 5 years had again taken the helm of Pyunik’s head coach.

The first 45 minutes of the match passed without scoring moments and spectacular play by the teams, and, perhaps, the only significant event in the first half was the appearance of a small dog in the field.

After the break, the first to threaten our team's goal were the players of Ararat, when after Patrick Handzongo's long-range shot, Henry Avagyan hardly managed to push the ball back.

However, in the 51st minute, Pyunik was able to open the score. Gevorg Tarakhchyan moved from the left wing to the center and with a wonderful pass brought out Eric Ocansey all alone, who coldheartedly sent the ball into the Ararat goal - 0:1. The Ghanaian footballer made himself a good birthday present.

At the end of the game, the Ararat players created two dangerous moments near our team's goal, but, fortunately, Artur Kartashyan’s and Kalifala Doumbia's shots did not reach the goal.

Substitute Sargis Metoyan could have stood out for Pyunik, winning the aerial battle with Ararat goalkeeper Adel Anzimati-Aboudou, but after his header, the ball hit the goalkeeper and narrowly missed entering the goal.

In the fourth minute of added time, substitute Vagner Gonçalves as a result of a quick counterattack sent the ball to substitute Daniil Kulikov in the opponent's penalty area but after his powerful shot, Ararat’s goalkeeper stopped the ball with his foot and saved his team.

Immediately after that, the ball appeared at another substitute player, Daniel Aghbalyan, who sent the ball to Vagner Gonçalves with a wide and well-designed pass, and the Brazilian player, facing alone the goalkeeper, put an end to the match with a thunder-like shot - 0:2. It is worth noting that it was Vagner Gonçalves’s first goal in a long time after a serious injury.

Pyunik had their second win in three matches and topped the standings with 7 points.

It should be noted that the newly appointed head coach of the Armenian national team, Yeghishe Melikyan, was present at the game, and greeted his former players from the stands after the match.

Our team will play their next game on August 29, being received by Urartu in the fifth round of the Fastex Premier League.
