In the 6th round of the Armenian Premier League, Pyunik played an away match against league newcomers Syunik at the Sisian City Stadium.

Notably, the last time our team traveled to the Syunik Province was around 10 years ago, when on October 1, 2016, they faced the former Gandzasar in Kapan within the championship.

Following the victory over reigning champions Ararat-Armenia in the previous round, there were good conditions for our team to secure another 3 points in this match and establish themselves at the top of the standings. In any case, Pyunik was considered the clear favorite for this game.

Compared to the previous match, Artak Oseyan made 5 changes to our team's starting lineup: Stanislav Buchnev, Artak Dashyan, Vyacheslav Afyan, Iman Griffith, and Viti started from the opening minutes instead of the injured Henri Avagyan, as well as Filipe Almeida, James Santos, Hovhannes Harutyunyan, and Gevorg Tarakhchyan.

As early as the 17th minute, our team came close to opening the scoring when Viti cut inside from the left, and his shot deflected off an opposing player before striking the crossbar.

Two minutes later, following a shot by Iasonas Pikis, Syunik's goalkeeper Diogo Sa blocked the ball, and the keeper played selflessly once again to deny Mikhail Kovalenko’s follow-up attempt.

Pyunik's performance in the first half was not very impressive, with our team's attacking line appearing particularly toothless. Unsurprisingly, Artak Oseyan made a triple substitution during the halftime interval.

The pace of our team's attacks accelerated, and in the second half, Pyunik completely took control of the initiative.

In the 64th minute, Syunik were reduced to 10 men when Kobi Anning was sent off for a harsh foul against Serhiy Vakulenko, which seemed to make our team's task even easier.

Nevertheless, Pyunik just could not find the key to the opponent's goal in this match, surprisingly squandering several clear-cut chances. It almost seemed as though Syunik's goal was enchanted.

Gevorg Tarakhchyan, Sargis Metoyan, and Iasonas Pikis came closest to scoring for our team. The latter could have found the back of the net at least 2 or 3 times in this game, and in the 86th minute, the Cypriot's strike even rebounded off the post.

Failing to convert their opportunities, Pyunik dropped two valuable points as the match ended in a goalless draw.

Our team will play its next match on September 9 in Gyumri, facing the other Higher League newcomer, Sardarapat, in a rescheduled fixture from the 3rd round of the championship.
