San Marino’s “Three Flowers”: Introducing our opponent

On July 10, Pyunik will play their first match of the new season, starting the struggle in the first qualifying round of the 2025/26 Conference League, where our team’s opponent is the Tre Fiori team from San Marino. The first leg of the confrontation will take place in San Marino, the second one at Vazgen Sargsyan Republican Stadium in Yerevan on July 17.

The Tre Fiori club was founded in 1949 and represents one of the nine fortresses of the country, Fiorentino. The team’s name in Italian means “Three Flowers”, which is also depicted on the club’s logo.

The team plays their home games at Federico Crescentini Stadium in Fiorentino, but hosts European Cup matches at the San Marino Stadium in San Marino.

Tre Fiori is the most titled team in San Marino: it has become the national champion 8 times, the cup winner 8 times and the super cup winner 6 times. The team last won the San Marino championship in the 2019/20 season. Our opponent took 3rd place in the previous San Marino championship.

Tre Fiori has been headed by 42-year-old Italian coach Danilo Girolomoni since July last year. The most experienced players in the team are 38-year-old goalkeeper Michele Nardi and 36-year-old forward Matteo Prandelli, who is also the team captain. Prandelli became the top scorer of the previous San Marino championship with 18 goals.

The club will play in the European Cup for the 8th time in its history. Tre Fiori made its debut in the European Cup in the first qualifying round of the 2009/10 Champions League, where they faced the Andorran team San Julia. Both legs of the confrontation ended in a 1-1 draw, and Tre Fiori lost to the opponent in the post-match penalty shootout.

In 2018, Tre Fiori became the first team from San Marino to overcome the preliminary round of the European Cup, defeating Wales' Bala Town in both legs (3-0, 0-1) of the Europa League. Moreover, among the San Marino teams, Tre Fiori has scored the most goals in European Cups (8 goals).

It should be noted that in European Cups this will be the second confrontation for Pyunik against teams representing San Marino. Ten years ago, in the first qualifying round of the 2015/16 Champions League, our team competed with the San Marino champion Folgore. In the first leg of the teams, Pyunik managed to achieve a 2:1 advantage over the opponent in Yerevan, thanks to Vardges Satumyan’s and Cesar Romero’s goals. Our team also won the second leg (2:1) with Kamo Hovhannisyan and Vardges Satumyan standing out for Pyunik.
