After the first match of the UEFA Conference League qualifying round, FC Pyunik’s head coach Yeghishe Melikyan stated that although the team lost, he is confident they will be able to recover in the second leg:
“Losing is never pleasant. Yes, today wasn’t our day, luck wasn’t on our side but I don’t want to blame the team for it. We lost, we accept it, we’ll analyze the game, play at home and I’m sure we’ll win.”
When asked why Matas Vareyka hadn’t played, Melikyan explained: “Matas has only recently joined team training. Before that, he was recovering from a serious injury and working individually. I hope he’ll be ready to help us in the home match.”
The coach also spoke about the team’s newcomers, stressing many of them haven’t played official matches for a long time and lacked fitness.
Coming to the fans’ support, Melikyan expressed gratitude, emphasizing how much it means for the team:
“Even far from home, we didn’t feel alone.”
