Pyunik beats Tre Fiori and qualifies for the next round

In the second leg of the first qualifying round of the 2025/26 Conference League, Pyunik hosted San Marino's Tre Fiori. After the bitter defeat in the first leg, our team was obliged not only to beat the opponent by a two-goal margin, but also to restore their good reputation.

Compared to the first leg, Yeghishe Melikyan made 4 changes to the Pyunik starting lineup. Instead of Aleksandar Miljkovic, Daniil Kulikov, Vagner Goncalves and Sargis Metoyan the following players entered the pitch: Nikolaos Kainourgios, Daniel Aghbalyan, Xavi Moreno and Marius Noubissi.

From the very beginning of the game, our team rushed forward and in the 3rd minute, Xavi Moreno's shot was the first alarm at the Tre Fiori goal. Minutes later, Xavi Moreno sent the ball from a corner into the opponent's penalty area, and Nikolaos Kainourgios almost opened the score with a header, but goalkeeper Michele Nardi saved his team.

In the 13th minute, in a fight with Daniel Aghbalyan, Tre Fiori captain Matteo Prandelli played with his hand in his own penalty area, and referee Florjan Lata awarded a penalty kick to our team without hesitation. It was clearly scored by Yusuf Otubanjo, and the total score of the confrontation became equal.

In the 24th minute, Pyunik managed to double their lead. Xavi Moreno, who was one of the most active players in our team, managed to get rid of the defenders in the right wing and passed the ball to Alemao, who had just joined the attack, and the latter sent the ball into the Tre Fiori goal with one touch, 2:0.

In the 39th minute, Tre Fiori player Luca Censoni violated the rules of the game in his own penalty area against Marius Noubissi, and the referee showed the penalty mark for the second time. The victim accurately accomplished the penalty, scoring his first goal for our team. In fact, Pyunik determined the winner of the confrontation already in the first half.

After the break, our players, considering the problem solved, no longer attacked at the same pace, while the guests, unlike the first half, became a little more active and in the 54th minute received a penalty kick, when the ball touched Alemao's hand in our penalty area.

The team captain Matteo Prandelli approached the ball, but, fortunately, Henry Avagyan, showed remarkable reaction and guessed the direction of the shot.

In the 64th minute, Matas Vareika entered the field after a long time after recovering from an injury. The Lithuanian player immediately got involved in the game and in one of the episodes, after a pass and shot from the left wing, Tre Fiori managed to get away thanks to the goalpost.

However, in the 85th minute, Matas Vareika again broke into the opponent's penalty area from his wing and addressed the ball to Yusuf Otubanjo, who made the score 4:0. It is noteworthy that this goal was the Nigerian forward’s 7th goal for Pyunik in the European Cup matches, and with that figure he became the best scorer of our team in the European Cups.

Two minutes before the end of the game, after Sarhgis Metoyan’s pass, the opponent's player Diego Moretti sent the ball into his own goal and the score became 5:0.

Pyunik took revenge on Tre Fiori and advanced to the second qualifying round. By the way, it was Pyunik’s biggest win in the European Cup matches.

Let us add that in the second qualifying round of the Conference League, our team will compete with Hungary’s Györ. The first leg of the teams will be held in Yerevan on July 24, the second one in the Hungarian city of Györ on July 31.
