Pyunik's opponent in the second qualifying round of the 2025/26 Conference League is the Hungarian Győr. The first leg of the confrontation will take place in Yerevan on July 24, the second one - on July 31 in Gyor, Hungary.
ETO FC Győr was founded in 1904 and represents the Hungarian city of Győr.
Győr has won the Hungarian championship four times (1963, 1981/82, 1982/83, 2012/13), the Hungarian Cup four times (1965, 1966, 1967, 1978/79) and the Hungarian Super Cup once (2013).
The team holds their home games at the ETO Park stadium in Győr, which has a capacity of 15,600 spectators. The stadium was opened in 2008 and replaced the former ETO Stadium.
Last month, the club unveiled its new logo, which has preserved the team's traditional green and white colors, shield and wreath.
It is noteworthy that Hungarian footballer Miklos Feher, who died of a cardiac arrest during a match for Benfica in January 2004, started his career in Győr. In tribute to Miklos Feher, Győr named its football academy after him.
Since April 2024, Győr has been led by 45-year-old Slovak specialist Balazs Borbely. During his football career, the latter managed to play for Slovakia’s Artmedia Petrzalka, Germany’s Kaiserslautern and Romania’s Timisoara. By the way, his teammates in the Romanian team were Arman and Artavazd Karamyan, leading players of Pyunik in the early 2000s. Borbely also played 15 matches for the Slovakia national team.
Győr will be competing in European competitions for the 19th time. In European cup competitions, the Hungarian team recorded their best result in the 1964/65 European Champions Cup (now the Champions League), when it reached the semifinals and lost both legs (0:1, 0:4) to Lisbon’s Benfica. The Hungarian team last participated in the European Cups in the 2014/15 Europa League, where they lost both legs to Swedish Göteborg (0:3, 1:0).
In the 2024/25 Hungarian championship, Győr, being a newcomer to the championship, took an honorable 4th place and qualified for the European Cup.
Preparing for the new season, Győr played friendly matches with Czech Artis Brno (1:1), Serbian Bačka Topola (3:1), Israeli Maccabi Haifa (0:2) and Ukrainian Karpaty (2:1).
Of the 25 players on Győr's squad list for the match against Pyunik, 12 are Hungarians, 3 represent Romania, 2 represent Serbia, and there are also single players from Slovakia, Sweden, Algeria, Gambia, Togo, Ukraine, Croatia and Austria.
